One photo downloads directly; several arrive in a ZIP.
Why iPhone photos are HEIC
HEIC stores a photo at roughly half the size of a JPG of similar quality, which is why Apple uses it by default. The catch is support: many websites, Windows programs and online forms still only accept JPG.
The converter decodes the HEIC in your browser and saves a standard JPG. Photo metadata such as the camera model and GPS location is not copied into the new file, which is useful before you share pictures publicly.
Tips
- To make your iPhone save JPG from now on, go to Settings, Camera, Formats and choose Most Compatible.
- Live Photos and bursts are converted as a single still image.
- Decoding HEIC takes more effort than other formats; large batches take a little longer on phones.
Frequently asked questions
Will the JPG look worse than the HEIC?
At 90% quality the difference is not visible for normal photos. The JPG will be larger than the HEIC, because JPG compression is less efficient.
Is the GPS location kept?
No. The converted JPG does not include the original's metadata, so the location where the photo was taken is not shared.
Can I convert photos on my iPhone?
Yes. Open this page in Safari, tap Browse files and choose photos from your library.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. They are decoded and converted in your browser.
