Three steps
- 1
Add the PNGs
Drop one or many PNG files.
- 2

- 3
Download
Several files arrive in a ZIP.
When JPG is the better choice
PNG compresses without any loss, which is perfect for logos and sharp-edged graphics but makes photos and busy screenshots large. JPG uses lossy compression tuned for photographs, so the same image is usually much smaller.
JPG has no transparency. Transparent areas of the PNG are filled with the background colour you choose; pick the colour of the page where the image will appear.
Tips
- Keep logos and icons with transparency as PNG; JPG would give them a solid box.
- Text-heavy screenshots look best at 90% quality or higher.
- For even smaller files, try Compress Image afterwards.
Frequently asked questions
What happens to transparent areas?
They are filled with white or black, whichever you choose, because JPG does not support transparency.
Will the JPG be smaller?
For photos and screenshots, almost always. For simple graphics with flat colours, PNG can sometimes be smaller.
Does converting reduce the resolution?
No. The JPG has exactly the same width and height in pixels.
Can I convert JPG back to PNG?
You can, but it will not restore detail lost in JPG compression.
